After a tumultuous start to the year, the winds of change are blowing strong and true at the Johannesburg Skydiving Club (JSC)! We’re thrilled to announce our new committee, a dynamic and dedicated team ready to steer the club into a productive and exciting future throughout 2025 and 2026. This “dream team” will significantly grow sport skydiving in South Africa, expand opportunities for friends to experience the exhilaration of a tandem skydive in Johannesburg, and cultivate an even stronger, more vibrant community.
We’re excited to introduce the passionate individuals stepping into these pivotal roles:
- Jurie Cilliers takes the helm as our new Chairman and ADZO representative. Jurie’s vision and leadership will be instrumental in guiding JSC forward, ensuring we meet our goals and continue to be a leading force in South African skydiving.
- Behind the scenes, keeping everything organised and running smoothly, is Ina Cilliers, our dedicated Secretary. Ina’s meticulous approach will ensure clear communication and efficient club operations.
- Managing the club’s financials with precision is Brenda Meyer, our new Treasurer. Brenda’s expertise ensures the club’s resources are managed effectively to support our growth and initiatives.
- Ensuring all our vital gear is in top condition is Rob Kruger, stepping in as Equipment Manager. Rob’s attention to detail is crucial for maintaining the highest safety standards for all our jumpers. Thys Danhauser is filling in for Rob while he is overseas.
- Overseeing the day-to-day running of our facilities and operations is Willem Visser, our Grounds and Operations Manager. William’s efforts will keep our dropzone a smooth-running and welcoming environment.
- And as an ever-present, invaluable force on the ground, we have Patric Diver, continuing his vital role in Grounds and Operations. Patric’s consistent presence ensures everything runs seamlessly for jumpers and visitors alike.
- We’re especially delighted to welcome back Beverly Cosslett to the safety helm as our Chief Instructor at the Johannesburg Skydiving Club. After a brief hiatus, Beverly’s extensive experience and unwavering commitment to safety are back where they belong, guiding our instructors and upholding our stellar safety record.
- Joining the team to inject fresh energy into our operations, events, and community growth is Brendon Nortier. Brendon’s drive will be key in fostering new experiences and strengthening our skydiving family.
A Heartfelt Farewell and Thank You to a Legend
This moment of new beginnings is also a time to express our profound gratitude to a true legend of JSC. We extend a long-overdue and heartfelt thank you to Eugene “Pottie” Potgieter. After 21 long and productive years as Chairman, Pottie has decided to step down and enjoy a richly deserved retirement.
Pottie, your unwavering dedication to the Johannesburg Skydiving Club over the past 21 years has been nothing short of extraordinary. Your leadership has been the absolute backbone of JSC. The club simply would not be where it is today without your tireless hard work, immense passion, and sheer perseverance. You’ve shaped countless skydiving careers and introduced thousands to the joy of flight. Thank you, Pottie, for everything. Enjoy your well-earned break!
With this exceptional new committee in place and the strong foundation Pottie built, JSC is looking forward to a future filled with lots of new experiences, forging new friendships, and creating countless new memories in Joburg skies. Come join us!
