Ready to Fly Solo? Your Skydiving Journey Starts at Johannesburg Skydiving Club!

So, you’ve taken that exhilarating tandem leap, felt the rush of the wind, and seen the world from a whole new perspective. Maybe you even caught yourself thinking, “I could do this on my own!” Well, guess what? You absolutely can! At Johannesburg Skydiving Club (JSC), we’re not just about one-off thrills; we’re about turning that spark of curiosity into a full-blown passion. We’re here to guide you every step of the way, from your first leap to earning your wings as a licensed skydiver.

The Path to Solo Freedom: Our Accelerated Free Fall (AFF) Program

Forget years of slow progression; our Accelerated Free Fall (AFF) program lives up to its name! It’s designed to get you flying solo safely and confidently in the shortest possible time. You’ll jump from a full altitude on your very first AFF skydive, with two instructors holding onto you, providing in-air coaching and stability. It’s an immersive, hands-on learning experience that truly puts you in control (with expert help, of course!).

Our AFF program is a carefully structured progression, broken down into distinct levels, each building on the last. Here’s a peek at what you can expect:

  • Ground School: Before you even get near the plane, you’ll spend some quality time with our instructors learning all the fundamentals. We cover everything from equipment knowledge and body position in freefall to emergency procedures. This isn’t just theory; it’s vital preparation that sets you up for success.
  • Levels 1-3: These are your initial coached freefall jumps. You’ll have two instructors right there with you, one on each side, maintaining stability and giving you real-time feedback. You’ll learn to maintain a stable body position, monitor your altitude, and practice deployment procedures.
  • Levels 4-7: As you gain confidence, you’ll progress to jumping with just one instructor, then eventually solo exits with the instructor simply observing your skills. These levels focus on mastering turns, forward movement, and tracking (moving horizontally in freefall). You’ll also learn valuable canopy control skills, practicing landing approaches and flaring for a soft landing.
  • Graduation Jumps: Once you’ve aced the coached levels, you’ll perform a series of solo jumps, demonstrating all the skills you’ve learned. Congratulations, you’re now ready to apply for your A-licence!

Throughout the program, we keep the instructor-to-student ratio incredibly low – either two-on-one or one-on-one – ensuring you receive personalised attention and immediate feedback. Your safety and rapid progression are our top priorities.

Beyond the Thrill: The Real Benefits of Learning to Skydive

Sure, the adrenaline rush is epic, but learning to skydive offers so much more than just a fleeting thrill. This sport cultivates:

  • Unshakeable Confidence: Mastering something as challenging as skydiving instils a profound sense of self-belief that spills over into every aspect of your life.
  • Incredible Community: The skydiving world is renowned for its tight-knit, supportive, and wonderfully eccentric community. At JSC, you’ll find lifelong friends who share your passion for the skies. There’s nothing quite like the camaraderie forged in freefall!
  • Stress Relief and Focus: When you’re in the air, nothing else matters. Skydiving demands your complete presence, offering a unique form of mindfulness and a powerful antidote to daily stresses.
  • New Perspectives: Literally and figuratively! You’ll see the world from an entirely new vantage point, and the challenges of learning a new skill will shift your perspective on what you’re capable of.

Time, Effort, and Investment: What It Takes

Let’s be real: becoming a licensed skydiver isn’t a weekend hobby. It requires time, commitment, and a financial investment. The AFF course involves 10 coached jumps, plus your ground school. The total time for the course depends on your availability and weather conditions, but many students complete it within a few weeks to a few months if they jump consistently. After the coached jumps, you’ll need to complete a minimum of 25 jumps to qualify for your A-licence.

We’re transparent about the costs involved, which cover your ground school, coached jumps, equipment rental, and packing services. Think of it as an investment in an unparalleled experience and a lifelong passion. We’re happy to provide a detailed breakdown when you visit us or give us a call.
